I’m super excited to share that I am joining the team at Emporia to teach some dressmaking workshops! Up first is the Kobi dress and there are two dates for you to choose from – Saturday 25th September and Saturday 13th November. You can book your spot now through the ‘Events’ page or read on to find out more about Kobi.

Kobi is a fantastic beginner project – there are very few pattern pieces, the fit is relaxed and there are no closures to contend with. The dress features in-seam pockets, a neckline facing and an attached belt that can be wrapped around and tied at the front or back. Kobi can be made in a wide range of woven fabrics – cotton, crepe, chambray, viscose or linen would all be perfect. You could even use a stable knit such as ponte roma to make a cosy winter version!

The fabric I chose for my dress is a viscose crepe – I was really drawn to the beautiful autumnal colours and bold print, which works perfectly for Kobi. I bought my fabric from Emporia when I visited in the summer – sadly it is no longer available, but they have plenty of other gorgeous options and attendees will get 20% off fabric in preparation for the class.

The pattern comes in sizes small (8 to 14), medium (12 to 18) and large (16 to 22) – I have made a few Emporia patterns before in a size 8 and they were quite roomy on me, so I decided to grade down. I then made a quick toile to check the fit and also raised the v-neck slightly. I’m pleased with the adjustments I made and I like how the dress fits, but I think I might leave the neckline as it was for my next version to see if I prefer a lower ‘V’.

The Kobi is a really straightforward sew and I can’t wait to guide students through the different stages of construction. We will also cover how to measure yourself and choose a size, how to cut out your pattern and fabric and lots of other tips and tricks along the way. Whether you are completely new to dressmaking or just lack a bit of confidence when sewing – this is the class for you! I’m looking forward to working with you but spaces are limited, so head over the to ‘Events’ page soon to secure your place.

Before I go – shout out to Patsy for taking these gorgeous pictures of my Kobi on our recent trip Greenwich – isn’t she a brilliant photographer?! Thank you, Patsy!
